Thanks for this Doug, it's always to see how others customise WP. Just one other thing, how do you get the feeds for individual categories?

You can get a feed for any category in Wordpress by just putting a forward slash, then the name of the category and then 'feed' (without the quotation marks) at the end of your blog address. All I did then was run it through Feedburner. So the education category (before it's been run through Feedburner) would be:

http://www.dougbelshaw.com/category/education/feed

Wow, I just discovered K2 via this site. A lot of features I never knew about. I think WP is MORE then just a CMS. I use some blank basic themes like wpthemerkit and then style the CSS in Dreamweaver. I use ThemeDreamer to see most of the feedback in realtime in DW Design View. Helps with code hints too. Here's my secrete:
